We'll be leaving from Klapmuts (near Paarl (near Cape Town)) on 5 September 2011 and head North. Way North.
First we'll shoot up the N7 towards Namibia. Once over the border, we'll keep heading North until we reach Tsumeb. From Tsumeb we'll turn East through the Caprivi strip to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where we'll engage ourselves in some White Water rafting action.
The next leg of the trip will see us ride though Zambia, through Lusaka and into Malawi. There we'll turn North again along the shores of Lake Malawi, all the way into Tanzania. Here we'll have a couple of options, but provisionally we'll try to spend a day or two near the beautiful coastline after which we'll swing by Mt Kilimanjaro. From there it's West to Uganda to look for Gorillas, around Lake Victoria, through Kampala and into Kenya.
From here the lesser travelled road will lead us North to the border town of Moyale, into Ethiopia (remeber to switch to the right side of the road here :o) where we'll visit the ancient carved-out churches of Lalibela. Then West again into the Sudan and through the Nubian desert to Aswan Dan (Lake Nasser). The ferry will (hopefully) take us from Wadi Halfa to Aswan in Egypt. The last dash (with new number plates) through Luxor to our final destination: Cairo.
And now for the route - which might change during the course of the next few months' preparations, as well as during the trip. The only given is our final destination!
